Introduction

Before anything, I am speaking to you. You. The person reading this. You need to remember something, apply this in real life and in fiction. The world you were raised to survive in doesn't exist anymore.

In this page, you will learn about why OCTOBER COUNTRY was created and what the inspiration is behind it.

OCTOBER COUNTRY is both a game which includes hthorror and roleplay into one game. I don't know a proper way to explain it, but imagine if Project Zomboid had more player interaction. OCTOBER COUNTRY is both meant for friends and to play by yourself. The roleplay elements come in the shape of character naming and building your character as a whole. The point is, you were some random guy before the undead holocaust started. I think that's what makes the game unique, at least, in my own words. You are put into a giant map somewhere in America with one goal. Survive. There is no correct or wrong way to play.

I encourage my players to do stupid shit, like running eachother over with a car, or building structures out of boxes. I am not a jackass when it comes to controlling what my playerbase does. Why would I? OCTOBER COUNTRY in its lore is brutal. You have thousands of IDIOTS who don't know shit about decent survival skills or what an apocalypse is. This game teaches you the hard way. You are not going to wear baggy jeans and a camo tank top to the apocalypse, and you are sure as hell not going to wear a full suit of knight armor while blasting some stupid bullshit on a speaker, you will both look extremely autistic and like a quick feast to zombies. One second, you're struggling to stand up or swing a sword from extreme heat exhaustion and weight, the next, your helmet is getting grabbed and pushed around by the weight of walking corpse as they bite into your eye and your head, tearing you apart and cannibalizing your body on the sidewalk as they tear you out of it. Both of you are dead within 10 minutes. You either die smart or you die dumb. The majority die dumb.

I know I'm ranting about shit that really does not matter but I'm gonna. I hate hate HATE people who think the apocalypse would be some romantic survival thing between them and their boyfriend/girlfriend, how looting through abandoned buildings would be "calming11!!", its calming until you see the corpse of a dead man crawling towards you while screaming, trying to tear your leg open. It's "romantic" while you play your guitar for your partner until the noise attracts a few zombies, causing you to get pushed into said campfire and burn to death. None of these people know what one would be like.

What the hell are you talking about? What the hell is the lore?

The lore is largely unfinished, and I mean LARGELY. I do not want to release information that is not finished. A very basic rundown would be on January 11th, VX-28, also known as Panico-necrotizing encephalovirus, rarely "Theo-Morris syndrome" would be released after a night janitor working at a Northwestern Portland Virexon Technologies Terminal harboring 6 terminally ill patients with Cancer, due to VX-28 being a Cancer cure that rewires the entire system and kills off cells. The janitor is bit by a previously dead patient who had reanimated, and does not report it in fear of losing his job. He dies on January 15th, 2028 and kills his wife Sandra and his 16-year-old daughter Emily. Through January 18th-31st, 2028, scattered reports of violent attacks surface in Beaverton and outer Portland suburbs, causing local hospitals to note unusual bite wounds and erratic patient behavior. The media dismisses the incidents as either drug-related or racial violence. Little do they know, it is MUCH worse. Further on, the virus would spread to the East Coast, enabling it as a global health pandemic. The world was considered to end on October 14th, 2028.

Before OC

Before OCTOBER COUNTRY, there was October Waste. October Waste would have taken place in Kansas. Specifically, Reno County. I wanted to recreate the WHOLE county by hand, every real place and building. You can probably see why I gave up on that. The lore before the game was that the outbreak had started a week before the game and it was more of a "Where is everyone?" kind of scenario rather than a slower collapse with actual extensive lore that makes sense which OCTOBER COUNTRY is now. There was gonna be NPCs that shot at you, which were members of a PMC company known as KEIA (Kansas Emergency Infascructure Action? I don't know, I changed it multiple times.). Why would Kansas have an ENTIRE PMC company to its name? Beats me. I have some screenshots of October Waste lying around.

Where the Idea Came From

There is no one single thing that inspired OC. OC is multiple things I wanted to do myself, based off multiple things. As a kid, I used to have these nightmares to the pointed I hated sleeping and would cry and beg to not go to bed. These nightmares were a zombie apocalypse broke out in my city, and the zombies would chase me and my family, bang on our windows, break in, and kill us. I hated it so much. I think now the idea of having something to constantly fear is what makes a horror game scary. If it scared me enough to not want to sleep, I have a feeling it could work. The game and story as a whole is influnenced by the Movies I like, Games I like, and Music I listen to. If you ever want to start a project, use your favorite things as inspiration or something related to it. Music that makes me feel a sense of dread or doom about to come is what fueled my creation. The following things are what inspire me most cut off into sections. Most of these are really basic and eye rollers but you can suck my dick if it bothers you that much. Another large part are pictures I thought looked cool.
